Weather Conditions in Thailand
The old adage, that there’s a right time for everything, doesn’t apply when you’re planning a trip to Thailand. To be honest, there’s no best time to visit Thailand because the country is gorgeous throughout the year. But even then, you may want to know the best time to travel to Thailand because you need to pack accordingly and plan your trip in advance.
Don’t worry, we have you covered. Whether you’re looking to chill by the beach or party hop in Bangkok. Here are seasons details that showcases below.
Seasons | Month | Temperature |
Summar | March to July | 30-34 degrees |
Monsoon | July to Oct | 23-29 degrees |
Winter | Nov to Feb | 18-32 degrees |
The best time to go to Thailand if you’re in the mind for some beach hopping would be during the winter months of December and January. There is very little chance of rain and the sun is comfortably warm, especially on the beaches. Being a tropical country, the winters are not harsh but actually enjoyable in Thailand. Even so, you might want to carry a light jacket or sweater in case it feels slightly chilly. But most people discard them in favour of beachwear as it’s cool and fresh and humidity-free weather.
However, since December counts as the best time to go to Thailand, beach destinations like Krabi, Phuket and Koh Samui are almost always booked ahead for the Christmas holidays. So, unless you plan ahead, it’s going to be difficult to fly into Thailand and find accommodation that is reasonably priced. Christmas also means that hotels will increase their surcharges, so visiting in early December is a good idea. Great weather and great prices await!
January is also exciting and could be the best time to visit Thailand as it’s the time for the Chinese New Year, which often falls towards the end of the month or in early February. There’s a festive mood in the air. Even though it’s not a public holiday, the Chinatown in Bangkok is known for its exciting dragon parades, firecrackers and exuberance.
There are some people who might find that the best time to go to Thailand would actually be during the rains. There are fewer tourists and being off season, everything is quite reasonably priced. In April, prices go down everywhere as it follows right after the peak season. It does rain during this time, but it’s sporadic and limited. Beach hoppers will still enjoy the time spent by the beach as the weather is pleasant, especially along the east coast. However, Bangkok is known to get extremely hot and humid during this time and is avoidable as a destination.
In June and July, rain is more frequent, and the flow of visitors reduces even further. In August there is rain everywhere, but beaches like Koh Samui are still a good option. September is the wettest month of the year and there are very few visitors but then most people also avoid the beach at this time. It’s a good time for a bargain however and a chance to explore Thailand when the crowds are thin. This follows even in October although rain is more sporadic now and by November, the sun is out completely, bringing the tourists back to the country. If you’re up for a little adventure and don’t mind getting wet, then the rainy season could possibly be the best time to visit Thailand.
However, not many people like to get wet. So they would probably want to avoid the rainy season in Thailand, from the months of May to October as monsoon in the tropics might not really be their idea of a great holiday.

One of the really interesting ways to experience a country’s culture is to visit during a festival celebration. Thailand is no exception. Festivals is the best time to travel to Thailand. It’s an explosion of colour and beautiful chaos.
While Chinese New Year is celebrated with a great deal of aplomb, the Thai New Year’s Day is celebrated as Songkran, in April. This is Thailand’s most famous festival and is celebrated across the country. A unique feature of this festival is the scented water that is splashed on people to wash away sins and bad luck. So there are chances you will get wet when you’re out and about on the streets during this time.
There are other festivals and fairs as well spread across the months of February, May, June, October and so on. From the Chiang Mai Flower Festival in February featuring stunning flower decorated floats to Fruit Day in Chantaburi, celebrated in May or Phi Ta Khon (Ghost Festival) celebrated in June or July, there’s something for everyone.
One of the most picturesque festivals celebrated in Thailand would be the Lantern Festival that is held in Chiang Mai every November. Thousands of paper lanterns converge above the Peng River and float away into the night, making for a splendid, heart-stopping sight. This one is unmissable. This is also the best time to visit Thailand which is why hotel bookings during this period are always tough if you don’t plan ahead. Even the regular New Year, at the end of December, is celebrated with a lot of fanfare. Especially in Bangkok, which becomes party central during this time, if that’s your kind of thing.
